spring home tour- next on top of books

I’m so glad you stopped by to visit our Spring Home Tour 2023, part 2. I’ve been so excited to show you a few new things I’ve held back to share with you today! Today’s tour is part spring tour and part mini makeover reveals and part best decorating advice!

Spring is the perfect time to refresh your home! After the frenetic and beautiful Christmas season, I like to strip down our home in the winter and give it a bit of a decor break. Then like clockwork spring comes along and as the world wakes up from its much-needed slumber my need to decorate begins to wake up too!

Spring begins the seasonal cycles of decorating that culminate at Christmastime! So, for me, spring is the start of my decorating year. And because I like to bring the things going on outside inside, decorating is quite simple.

Welcome

Spring Tour, Part 1

If you missed our 2023 Spring Tour, Part 1 you might want to visit. It’s full of ideas and changes to our home! I have lots of easy spring decorating ideas to share!

spring home tour- coffee table with tulips

I found the most lovely not-too-orange tulips at Wegman’s and used them on both tours. I’ve added a little more color to our home and am enjoying it.

And saying that, there are some areas in our spring home that I kept quite neutral!

spring home tour- dining area ready for spring

One thing you might want to know about me is that there is something always changing in our home. I love to decorate and redecorate and add and edit and move things around. Our home is my personal decorating laboratory!

Let’s head to the sunroom…

The Sunroom

We have lived at the Tanglewood House for three and a half years. And just recently I have felt that we are coming to the end of making major changes to our home and to my decorating style.

spring home tour-sunroom with tulips

Our sunroom is quite small, 15 x 15 with windows on three sides and open to the dining area. However, this is a room that we love to be in and so do our kids and grandbabies when they come.

It is a small room that lives large!

Our last most recent addition to this room is a swivel chair. We also hung the baskets that had been above our bed on the small wall above the chair.

This is a beautiful room to have coffee in the morning! Sunlight streams through the windows!

It’s important to keep extra decorating to a minimum in a small room! So for spring, I added a white fluted container of orange and white tulips to the coffee table and a nest.

I also added a couple of chunky wooden candlesticks and white candles. Together they make a simple spring vignette. I’m a huge believer in following good interior design concepts (for the most part). These concepts are tried and true! They make decorating so much easier! I followed the Rule Of Three and other concepts for How To Style A Spring Vignette.

The orange tulips also work with the blues and grays in the rug because they are complementary colors. It’s important to know if and when you can Mix Warm And Cool Colors together!

If you have a small room one of the best things you can do is NOT over decorate! Use a very edited hand!

Instead of adding more and more season decor you might want to add pillows that reflect the season.

Put away heavy pillows and decorative throws and add choose ones that are lightweight and attractive!

We love this room for its views and sunlight. If you have a small-ish room you might like to see How To Make A Small Room Live Large. And here is another post, How To Decorate A Small Room that is full of ideas and great tips.

Let’s head out of the sunroom and while we are on the first floor, head to the master bedroom…

The Spring Bedroom

spring home tour-spring bedding

Our bedroom is dressed up for spring in lots of whites and soft neutrals. I love to change the look of our bedroom by changing out bedding seasonally. We have three bedrooms and I mix and match the bedding in all three!

This spring, I used a mish-mosh of bedding from summer last year and bedding from the larger upstairs bedroom.

New to the room this season are the curtains. I LOVE buffalo check! It works so well with almost any style.

The other new thing in the bedroom are these stylized flowers/lily pads/sand dollars we hung above the bed.

spring home tour-

I saw them at a local shop, Beautiful Home Interiors, over a year ago and fell in love with them. When I inquired about them I was told they were for display only. This spring I was in the shop again and they were for sale! You can see them HERE.

The images don’t do them justice! They are so so pretty and unusual. I thought they would be nice for spring and summer.

spring home tour-spring bedding

Since you last saw our bedroom we got a new bed. It’s an upholstered platform bed and we just love it. HERE is our bedroom dressed up for spring a couple years ago with our old bed. The bedding on this bed is going upstairs this spring.

Do you decorate your bedroom seasonally? I love to add a few things that give us a hint of the season!

One of the best things we can change in the spring is our bedding. During the Christmas season and winter, I like to add a velvet quilt and fur pillows. You can see our Christmas bedroom from two ago with a brown velvet quilt on it and lots of cozy pillows! I just took off the heavy red velvet comforter we had on our bed for Christmas and winter this year.

So after all that color, I wanted to keep our bedroom light!

I use a white matelasse quilt as a base for all the beds in the house. I just love the feel of these thin quilts! The lightweight comforter on top of the matelasse quilt I used last summer on our bed. This quilt is reversible and so pretty up close! It was very reasonably priced as it also came from the shams!

The white Euro shams are almost ancient! They are also matelasse with tiny pom pom fringe.

I’ve used the long antelope lumbar pillow on both of our sofas and in all three bedrooms! It is just so versatile. It works great on our spring bed since I did not want to add any throw pillows on the bed.

The days are getting warmer but the nights are still quite chilly in our area. I added a white cotton duvet at the end of the bed and a neutral throw for napping.

spring home tour-

Before long, we will find the comforter kicked off the end of the bed in the morning. Then it will probably go in one of the upstairs closets in case guests might need it.

Do you have a bed tray in your room? They look pretty and are so functional! Bobby brings me coffee in bed every morning so having a tray on hand for it and a piece of toast is essential!

The tray is decorated for fun today! I usually don’t keep it on our bed. But I think it looks pretty!

spring home tour- bed tray with a nest and a cup of coffee

I’ve found an easy solution to a clean and tidy nightstand! I used baskets to keep things I need. The larger basket holds lotions, powder, creams, etc for the morning and the small one keeps my creams and potions for my nighttime routine!

spring home tour- night stand with a pot of ranunculus on it

I keep a pretty pot of faux ranunculus on top of the nightstand with a picture of our youngest grandson.

I’ve already changed out the decor in our living room and dining room so I brought the big urn of flowering branches into the bedroom and put it on the vanity! And the turned pedestal of eggs too. No decor in our home should get too comfortable living in one place for very long.

Let’s leave the bedroom and I want to show you something we worked on this past winter but has never been seen before…

The Stairs

One of the bigger DIY projects we took on ourselves was to transform the golden oak stairs!

This is how looked like the day we moved in…

spring home tour- oak stairs

And here’s how they look now…

spring home tour- painted stairs

Bobby and our son Christopher painted them. This was a big undertaking! We had a wool stair runner installed and we just finished hanging pictures up of our six grandchildren, ages 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1.

Look for a post soon about how we transformed the stairs!

The Loft

At the top of the landing is the loft. It has a small area we just finished making into a small place to sit. It opens to two bedrooms and a bathroom.

spring home tour- sitting area

This area is a small space where our guests can relax.

I added a couple of spring-inspired pillows to the chairs.

spring home tour-spring pillows on a chair

The table between the chairs is small so I can not put anything big on it. A small vase of white tulips and a couple of little birds spread spring cheer!

I’ll share more details about the loft and the sitting area later.

I hope you enjoyed seeing how I lightly decorated some of the smaller spaces in our home for spring and are leaving here with ideas you can use in your own home!
