BUT FIRST, A WORD ABOUT FAUX PLANTS

I could not pass up the opportunity to say a few words about faux green plants since we are talking about organics that look like their real counterpart cousins!

I love them and use them to decorate my home because I don’t have much of a green thumb when it comes to indoor plants.

Look for faux plants that look real and when you touch them feel real too.

I use faux plants in our home all year long!

Now let’s talk about faux flowers.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT FAUX FLOWERS

Faux blooms are not like your mother’s and grandmother’s faux flowers!

Not at all!

Faux flowers are so realistic!

The best artificial flowers are very, very, very authentic. Look for real-touch and silk faux flowers that look exactly like the real flower they are imitating, right down to the petal and stem and the tiniest detail!

I usually purchase my great fakes at local decor shops, Pottery Barn and Etsy.

Yes, they are expensive but they last for years. Fabulous faux flowers are marvelous investments!

I mostly buy them on sale after the season and keep collecting them every year! At the bottom of today’s post, you can see my favorite faux silk flowers and many are on SALE!

I have a pretty impressive arsenal of fool-the-eye spring flowers.

FUAX POPPIES IN A TALL VASE

There are so many beautiful faux florals but here is a list of the most popular faux blooms that tend to look very real…

  • tulips
  • peonies
  • ranunculas
  • lilacs
  • orchids
  • calla lilies
  • orange blossoms
  • thistle
  • hydrangeas
  • anemone
  • cherry blossom branches
  • apple blossom branches

It might be a good idea to pick from this list if you are looking for the best faux blooms.

CREATE A VIGNETTE

I think one of the prettiest ways to celebrate faux blooms is to make them a part of a vignette.

One designer trick I use is to mix real flowers and greens with my faux ones.

I mixed almost dried real seeded eucalyptus with real-looking faux tulips and the look was fresh and so pretty! If this wasn’t a post on faux flowers I bet they would have passed for the real deal!

Faux blooms can give a nod to the season, add height and color to a vignette as well as pull the vignette other together like no element in the vignette can!

MAKE A FLORAL ARRANGEMENTS WITH ONE FAUX TYPE OF FLOWER

My very favorite way to use faux florals is to create a pretty one-flower floral arrangement! Grouping one kind of beautiful faux blooms together has such wow-factor appeal!

I like to use seasonal faux blooms en masse on my bedside table! The flower arrangement above was for spring and the one below for fall!

FIND THE PERFECT CONTAINER

My very favorite way to display faux flowers is in a wide, big urn.

I found this one several years ago at HomeGoods and knew it belonged here at StoneGable! I like to fill the urn up and let the blooms spread out and overflow!

This urn also looks pretty holding lots of white tulips too!

Put faux blooms in the same containers you would put their real cousins in.

The faux forsythia on our dining area table are in a white urn that has a rather narrow mouth. I would use this same vase for real ones!

FIND FAUX BLOOMS IN POTS

Who could resist a little bit of yellow daffodil sunshine? These are faux tete a tete daffodils in a little pot!

I think they are very realistic, faux dirt and all!

You will see them soon because I just can’t wait for spring!

If you can find something like these potted bulbs scoop them up. They really are a treat!

USE THEM IN A WREATH

One really pretty way to use faux flowers is to use them on a wreath.

You can find faux bloom for any season but since spring is will be here soon how about getting ahead by making a Spring basket of faux blooms ready to hang on the front door! Here is a pretty, brambly Spring basket…

See SPRING FRONT DOOR BASKET here.

And here is another wreath filled with pretty tulips…

BEST TIP FOR LAST…

Another tip to help faux flowers look more realistic is to use them sparingly! You do not want your home to look like a florist’s shop! Don’t overdo adding faux flowers!

One beautiful arrangement is enough in a room.

And one more tip!

Fluff faux flowers, bend the stems, snip off the ends of perfect leaves, open buds, gently iron leaves that are crumpled and try to make them resemble their mother nature counterparts! Spend time working on each flower to make it look the most realistic you can.

  1. I used to be someone who never used faux flowers except maybe fall foliage and bittersweet branches.
Since they are so much better and realistic I find myself using them when my garden is not giving me any cutting blooms.
I have acquired quite a variety and keep them in a large basket in my craft room. Your idea of covering them is a good way to prevent dust accumulation.
Good faux are expensive so my best tip is to look for them in thrift stores where I have, found some really great ones. Fun looking for them too.
    Have a great week.

I took your lead and purchased some of the faux poppies you show in your blog- expensive, yes; realistic, definitely. Thank you for the tips.

I would also like to know where you purchased the neutral throw pillow with the gold border that you show in your blog with the zebra pillow. I love that pillow and have been looking for something comparable but can’t find anything. Your response would be much appreciated.

    1. Hi Cheryl, I found this beautiful pillow on One Kings Lane. I’m sorry, I don’t see it on their site right now.
