These pretty apple blossom branches have been used every spring for almost 10 years!

CREATIVE WAYS TO USE FAUX FLOWERS

But, I digress. Here is what you will need to make this diy…

  • one bucket-type basket with a handle to hang from the door (see pretty ones HERE, HERE, and HERE.
  • faux blooming branches or flowers or both
  • pretty ribbon (you can see the ribbon I used HERE)

MAKING THE FLOWER BASKET IN THREE EASY STEPS

French basket hanging on a door

I think this basket has a pretty French look so I continued the theme!

TIE A BOW…

The first thing I did was to tie a black and white French inspired ribbon around the basket and tied a bow in the front.

HANGING BASKET WITH A BLACK AND WHITE BOW

I tied the ribbon quite snuggly on the basket so it did not need to be fastened with anything. But if it did, I would have used a few straight pins to attach it.

I cut the ends of the ribbon into French tails.

ADD BLOOMING BRANCHES

I hung the basket on the back of my front door to add the blooms! It made styling much easier!

I had two very large branches of faux apple blossoms with big branch-y stems. So I rolled the bottom of the branches around my hand until the branches were the perfect height for the spring door basket.

Then I tucked the rolled end of the branches into the basket.

Two branches were the perfect amount for this arrangement. I spread them out from one side of the basket to the other. Easy, right?

ADD EXTRA FLOWERS

PRETTY FLOWERS IN A BASKET

If you like the look of the branches you don’t really need to add extra flowers. But I found the pretty pastel ranunculus and couldn’t resist adding them to the front door basket.

I used three sprays of ranunculus in the front of the basket. Again, just so easy!

Now, grab a few flowers, a basket, and some pretty ribbon and make a beautiful spring door basket!

And don’t forget to send me a picture of your creation!

  1. What a beautiful and unique basket arrangement. I absolutely love it!

  2. I would love to decorate my front door, however when I decorate it, I have a problem with either birds or wasps building nests in the arrangement. Does anyone have a humane solution for my dilemma?

    1. As a deterrent to the birds, tuck a small plastic snake where the birds might land. As for the hornets and wasps, lightly spray the flowers with lysol.

        1. For wasps, I’ve used Bounce dryer sheets on my boat to deter them. And another possibility would be to use the wool dryer balls with essential oils. Do a search for which oils repel the insects you are worried about and to make sure you want that smell by your front door. You might be able to use the essential oils directly on your flowers or ribbon.

I also have the problem with birds nesting in my grapevine wreath . I have a covered porch and some just seek shelter during cold nights. I have to remember to shake the door and open slowly since I have had birds come into the house and that is a pain to chase them out. During the spring nest building season, if I start seeing twigs by the wreath, I just remove the wreath for a few days.

Such a beautiful basket for your front door, Yvonne! Thanks, once again, for such a great idea! I am going to get my spring stuff and make some. Blessings!

  4. Hi Yvonne, I love this idea! I’m so tired of the same forsythia wreath. I don’t have a basket but I do have an old fishing creek just gathering dust ? I’m on it ! Btw, I also love your menus, they always give me ideas. Thank you!

  7. Would love ideas for decorating a double front door for spring.

    1. I’ve decorated quite a few double doors and the best way is to create two big mirror image wreaths to hang on each door. Also, flank each door with pretty planters. Such a pretty look! I hope this helps.

  8. Can you share how you hang the basket on your front door please? Do you have a permanent hanger for all your beautiful door decor?

  9. Love your door basket. I have a dark green door. What colors could I use?

    1. Almost any color would look pretty with a dark green door. Keep the green foliage light so it shows up. Hope this helps, Janet.
