Spring Kitchen Decorating Ideas
Spring is such a glorious time of year. The earth starts to wake up from its winter nap and life spring up again! I’m in my kitchen celebrating all the beauty of the new season and sharing spring kitchen decorating ideas.
The kitchen here at Tanglewood is a workhorse! I love to cook and now my new passion is making sourdough bread! So our kitchen gets used hard. Because the kitchen is also seen from so much of our home it needs to be neat and tidy too.
That can be a tall order for a working kitchen!
WORKSPACES IN OUR KITCHEN
Our kitchen is not only a working kitchen but I want it to look pretty too. It’s so much nicer to work in a kitchen that is a little bit dressed up! And I love when my kitchen reflects the seasons!
I like to keep the countertops where I work clear. I do most of my meal prep work on the counter directly ahead. I can see out into the great room, and can also see the sunroom and of course the dining area and the banquette. And that means the kitchen can be seen from those areas too!
No doors to hide the kitchen behind. That is why I also do a bit of seasonal decorating in the kitchen.
I’ve had a lot of readers ask about our countertops. We chose quartz. It’s a man-made product or engineered stone.
For me, I like marble-like countertops best with just a little faint veining. That’s why we chose Ultra White Quartz for our counters.

Now let’s talk about decorating! Here are a few spring kitchen decorating ideas…
SPRING ON THE ISLAND
We call the area with barstool seating the island. Not really an island but it serves the same purpose.
Late winter I started growing herbs in our kitchen. And they have grown like weeds! I totally cut back the mint and it has been growing lots of baby mint sprouts.
They make an organic divide between the island counter and the sink area. I did not do this on purpose. Don’t you love happy accidents?

I would love to get a few more herbs but I don’t want my island to look too much like a jungle. I might try to grow chives. But that’s all (famous last words).
ADDING BLOOMS TO A SPRING KITCHEN
Spring is all about blooms! It’s a bit too early in our area for spring booms so I don’t have any to pick from our garden right now. However, I am using pretty flowers from the grocers!
The end of our long counter is a great place to add flowers, or set up a bar or set out some dessert!
We are having another couple for dinner tonight and I just ran out of time to make dessert. So I sent Bobby to the local Giant Store and told him to get a layer cake, ice cream, and two bunches of flowers.
I wish I would have taken pics of the cake he brought home. Awe, sweet Bobby!
It had big bird yellow embellishments all over it. It was so gaudy!
So I decided to create a trendy naked cake. I must have scraped 2 pounds of icing off this little cake!
Then I added some of the daisy looking mums and a few little clumps of the hydrangeas.
I left the icing on the top thicker, so before I serve the naked cake I’ll take a bit more of it so I don’t serve the icing that touched the flowers.
One of my favorite places to add a season touch is by my coffeemaker! Just something little.
I feel so happy when I’m greeted in the morning by a few flowers and coffee!
One little hydrangea looks sweet in a glass bottle. Barely opening hydrangeas are so darling!
Even one little bloom make a difference!

USE GREAT FAUX BLOOMS IN THE KITCHEN
Faux branches are worry free! No watering, no dropping, no mess! Just pretty!
I found a basket in the basement and stuck two cherry blossom branches (also from the basement) in it. This little corner of my kitchen is a great place to display the branches.
Unfortunately, the cabinet in back of the blooms is so worthless! I can’t get in it easily because of the countertop in front of it. So it acts as a backdrop for the branches! Problem solved!

OTHER SPRING KITCHEN DECORATING IDEAS
I like to lighten things up in the spring.
One little thing I did was change out all the wooden trays.
The tray that was next to my stove that holds things I need for cooking is now a large white tray. It replaced a wooden tray! Just the smallest things can make a kitchen look lighter and airier and spring inspired!
Another small thing I like to do is to add the color of the season to one of the glass canisters that sit on the countertop in my spring kitchen!
I’ve probably done this for decades. It is just one little fun way to give a nod to every season! Green is a color that reminds me of spring.
In our area, the fields are coming to life turning beautiful shades of green!
So I dumped a couple bags of dry split peas into one of the canisters! After spring and maybe even summer I’ll bag the peas up and use them again next year. I do not like peas so these peas will never be cooked!
When I was a child I lived in Scotland and England and even spent a semester at a Scottish boarding school. Oh, the peas were horrid! To this day I can’t even stand the smell of peas!
I’ve been looking for 3 green and white cups to use as scoops in local vintage shops. But I’ve not found the right ones yet.
SOMETHING NEW THIS SPRING
Although the banquet in the kitchen is not springy it is new to us this spring.
The seat was recently finished and we are already enjoying it!
It’s a comfy place to sit and read or talk!
I’m still waiting for several custom pillows to be finished and will share how the whole thing looks when they are done.
This is such a sunny spot most of the day but especially in the morning! I really look forward to stretching out here with a big cup of coffee on spring mornings when the trees are in full bloom. This street is replete with blooming trees and shrubs.

We have a paper towel holder installed under the sink. And the soap dispenser is built in to the left of the faucet.

I love all the light that comes in from your windows and the greenery just says spring.I have the same glass canisters in my kitchen and really like them.
Seriously lovely Yvonne, I can hardly wait to bring some bright spring life into our kitchen.
I love split peas, so they would get eaten for sure at my house! However, I recently read a great tip for using dried peas or beans to act as stabilizers to hold faux or dried flowers flowers steady in pots or containers. Perhaps, Yvonne, you can put your dried peas to good use this way since you have so many beautiful floral displays.

Yes, but our dining area table is so close and the bar is right there with bar stools. Just too many seating areas with a table.
I noticed the close proximity of your dining table. I just thought an itty bitty table that would hold your morning coffee or evening glass of wine would be cute & convenient.
Love the banquet ! I would be tempted to have a small table nearby to place my morning coffee or cup of tea, while enjoying the sunshine .

Yvonne, your “Spring Kitchen” is so beautiful! You have added such pretty touches! My favorite is the wicker basket with the pretty blooms — so pretty! It just makes you happy to see all these spring items. We are all needing these special touches this Spring.

Really love the basket weave back counter tiles. Did you design them? I’m not a cluttered cabinet person either…less is always more.
