How To Decorate For Spring After Easter

How do we decorate for spring after Easter? Do we put all our spring decorations away and wait for Summer? It’s hard to know exactly how to decorate our homes for spring without it looking too Eastery! Here are some ideas to decorate our homes now that Easter is over and we have lots of pretty spring days ahead of us! Embrace spring!

USE PRETTY SPRING PILLOWS

One of my favorite go-to ways to bring the season into my home is with pillows! Doesn’t it always come back to pillows?  I’m putting away overtly Easter-ish pillows and pastel colors and I’m bringing out other spring-inspired pillows.

The power of pillows should never be overlooked when decorating for any season! If you don’t like a lot of spring tchotchkes then opt for adding some pretty spring pillows to your home!

PUT AWAY THE EASTER BASKETS, CHICKS, AND BUNNIES

Gosh, I know this might be hard for some of you!

You might want to think about putting your Easter decor away until next year.

It was hard letting go of my handsome black rabbits and returning them to the basement this year. I have really enjoyed them being a part of my decor.

However, I know it’s time to replace them with other pretty things that reflect spring without looking like they came out of an Easter basket.

Above is the slight change I made to the Curlacue chest. I took down the rabbits and replaced them with a few decorative pieces.

When it comes to overtly Easter-ish decor and accents use your own good discretion! You will know what to put away and what to keep out.

LIGHTEN UP DECOR

Oh, I love to lighten up decor as the weather warms. Think about adding lighter color accents, and lighter feeling accessories. Think linens and burlap and pretty white things!

Pull off tablecloths and let your tabletop shine! If you have an accent rug, think about changing it out for a sisal or jute rug. They are inexpensive and scream warmer weather!

And don’t forget paint! Paint heavy furniture or picture frames or shelves and more! Use the magic of your paintbrush to lighten up the things you love!

NEST ARE BEST

Nests are fun to use almost any time of year. But they were made for spring! As the birds build their’s outside you should be decorating with yours inside. Tuck nests here and there… on ledges, on top of candlesticks, in a coffee table vignette or even as part of a tablescape.

I collect nests when I see them on sale and now I have a nice big clear bin full of them ready to use to decorate! You can even make your own nests!

TWIGS AND BLOOMING BRANCHES

I have a not-so-rare condition known to be rampant among interior decorators. It’s called stickandtwigitis!

I love love love sticks and twigs and brambles and anything organic!!!! I’m crazy about them and find every opportunity and use them liberally in my home! Sometimes I use real blooming branches but mostly great eye-fooling faux.

Add a few branches or blooming twigs to a large container like I did and show them off! In just weeks they will be back in the basement in tall plastic trash cans waiting until next year!

I look at good quality, realistic faux branches as an investment. Wait till they go on sale and buy a few each season. They will last Y-E-A-R-S and always look amazing!

ADD SOME PRETTY SPRING GREEN

herbs on a kitchen counter

I start itching to dig in the dirt right about now! But it’s a little too early to plant most green things in my area! So, why not plant organics like herbs in fun pots and keep them on or near kitchen windowsills?

They make cooking so fresh and look so pretty too!

Or how about adding a great houseplant to your living spaces! Green is the color of spring!

TULIPS, TULIPS, TULIPS

Did you know that at one time tulips were worth a king’s ransom?  Don’t you think that tulips are the quintessential spring flower? And they come in such pretty colors! I love white, but that’s just me.

  6. Spring is my favorite season and nature is my inspiration for decor. This means using both real and faux flowers in the pastels and purples of the seasons. It is truly when you start to see small animals including rabbits so I don’t banish these from the scene for a few weeks yet. I like to enjoy the afterglow of the holiday and summer is still nearly three months away!

  10. P. S. dear Yvonne; Where did you find your beautiful new living room rug?

  11. love your ideas! also love the rug with diagonal pattern where did u get it or do you know the manufacturer’s name?

  12. I love how you decorate! I live in a small house, and I can’t do much “holiday themed” decor that is so specific to one holiday. I have maybe 5 Easter items. I do not want to store much. I don’t have any “holiday themed” summer decor for summer or July 4th. I also have real plants (and fake!) where I might could have had “more decor!). I like the plants more than knickknacks.

For fall, I have 3 pillow covers and maybe 3 turkey items- an amber antique dish, a small wood turkey, and a cute small gravy dish. I have one Halloween item! I also mostly have Christmas and winter as one decor scheme except for the decorated tree. ?

I think for people who have the storage space, the items can be very specific. I only can store a little. I have to be very choosy, and most decor has to be year round appropriate to work. ? I like the 5 min removal process to put things away, too! Your style is so compatible with a decorated look that can be seasonal or all year! Love how pretty you do!
