Early Fall Decor And Kitchen Tour
It’s a fall tour! We all love them. Today I’m sharing my early fall kitchen. There is not a pumpkin in sight! I’ve used what fall decor I had in my “stash” and what I found outside around our home to decorate! Welcome to the Early Fall Kitchen Tour, I’m so glad you came to visit!
This is a ONE ROOM FALL TOUR with some of my best blogging friends! Make sure you visit their tours at the end of this post!
My goal is to give you lots of ideas for decorating your kitchen using pretty natural elements! And NO pumpkins!
If you have visited StoneGable in the fall you know white pumpkins are my favorite natural to decorate with! Oh, I love them!
But sometimes we want to start decorating for fall and we are not quite ready to decorating with pumpkins. This tour gives you pretty alternatives to pumpkins!
Here are some important things to think about when decorating your kitchen for early fall!
USE A TIGHT COLOR PALETTE
Before we even put one fall decoration in the kitchen we should think about a color palette for our fall kitchen!
Keeping a color palette in mind will instantly make your fall kitchen decor look cohesive and pretty!
Much of the fall elements I used in the kitchen were in the green family. So I used greens, neutrals, and whites to be the dominant fall kitchen colors.
I can’t stress enough how much easier it is to decorate any room for any season if you establish a color palette first. And keeping the color palette tight makes a room look instantly well composed!
Did you know that all greens are supposed to work together? I somewhat buy that! However, I have a hard time thinking a blue-green and a citron green look great together in a room. Maybe that’s just me!
I chose to use the citron green in the hydrangeas as my most predominant green in our fall kitchen.
It’s good to have something that inspires you. And the hydrangeas were a big inspiration for this fall decor!
I added green to the glass cabinet. I used green goblets, a small container of dried hydrangeas, and a little faux green plant with some gold berries.
USE FALL DECOR SPARINGLY IN A KITCHEN
Adding fall kitchen decor is a balance. A kitchen should be very utilitarian because we prepare meals in it and wash dishes there too and more. And most kitchens gets used hard. At least my kitchen does!
But we also want to add some pretty decor that makes it a pleasure to work in.
The sweet spot when thinking about decorating our kitchens is to create small areas of fall decor.
Keep decor in “fall kitchen decor” designated areas! Don’t spread your fall decor all over the kitchen! And keep it very simple.
The long surface in the middle of my kitchen is where I do most of my meal prep. As you can see it is totally free of any decor! I never put decor in countertop workspaces.
I might add a tiny vase of flowers or a small pumpkin (in several weeks) on the tray that holds my coffee and sugar near my coffee maker. But I keep it very contained and not in the way of the countertop I use to make a cup of coffee!
CHOOSE NATURAL FALL ELEMENTS
The very best way to decorate for fall is to forego fall nick nacks and cutsie fall decor and stick to natural fall elements. They are far prettier and more sophisticated. There is nothing that compares to real fall elements in a fall kitchen!
For my fall kitchen decor I used what I could find in my yard and at our local Amish greenhouse down the road. I also used a few dried and faux fall elements I had in my stash too!
Here is the fall decor I used in the kitchen…
HYDRANGEAS
I have a few types of hydrangeas around my house but this beautiful limelight variety is my favorite. They dry wonderfully! And take on shades of soft greens, light sepias, and beautiful blush as they dry.
I have a few large containers I favor when using a mass of hydrangeas. This big heavy double-handled urn works perfectly to make a big statement on the kitchen island!
For me, hydrangeas are quintessential fall kitchen decor!
SMALL GOURDS
One reason I chose to use green in my early fall kitchen decor was the hydrangeas but another reason were these darling little gourds called spinners.
These tiny gourds come by their name honestly! Give them a twist between your thumb and index finger and they spin like a top. My grandbabies love them!
And they make the sweetest little fall decor to sprinkle here and there.
The Amish farmer had pretty gourds this year so I chose gourds that were green and other more neutral colors. I found a handsome handmade berry colander at a local shop to contain some of the gourds.
FALL FRUIT
I love to decorate with apples and pears in September!
I have a box of faux green apples I’ve probably used for over a decade and I bring it out every year around this time.
Don’t you think fall kitchen decor should include fruit in season? Yes, me too!
BERRIES AND BRAMBLES, REAL OR FAUX
Beside the bowl of apples is a smoky green glass candleholder and a bottle with some greens with pretty berries picked from our side yard. Foraging for fall kitchen decor around my house is so much more fun than foraging for it in the basement for fall decor!
If you know what this plant is please comment and let me know.
The bush was planted before we moved in. It is quite gangly and tall and I was going to have it removed until I saw the berries. They are so pretty so the bush lives on for another year.
One new addition to the kitchen are a trio of botanical prints.
I’ve been looking for something for that wall for quite a while. I knew when I saw the right pictures I would just know. I was perusing a local decorating shop and there they were!
The kitchen hood even was donned with a small faux wreath of fall leaves!
I used a small clear Command Hook to adhere it to the hood. I keep them in a decor toolbox along with other items I use when decorating.
Did you notice I finally filled the glass cabinets along the ceiling with white dishes and other stoneware pieces?

Your unknown plant looks like Viburnum to me. I have several of these and the berries are spectacular this year.
Thanks, Pat!
Love the subtle touches of green you’ve added to the kitchen. The botanical prints are a nice addition addition also.
Thanks Doreen!
I love your early fall kitchen! My kitchen is small with little counterspace, but I will find room for natural items to use. Thanks for the inspiration!
Yay! Even the smallest kitchen should have a tiny nod to the season!
* Not a pumpkin in sight. That’s hilarious. It’s so so so tempting to bring out the pumpkins, maybe not even the orange ones, but little white ones or green ones or stripey ones.
I just wanted something a little different for early fall. I LOVE white pumpkins so it was so hard not to place them all over my home!
I use pheasant tail feathers and Japanese lanterns (weed) to include additional texture to my autumn arrangement.
Oh, sounds so pretty!
Beautiful Kitchen. I’d be interested to know your reason for not placing the table at the banquette.
The reason I don’t have a table at the banquette is that there is a dining area table nearby and chairs at an island across from the banquette. Another table is just way too much! Three areas that have a table and chairs within 10 feet is overkill. And my guests love to lounge on the banquette and look out the window. Hope this answers your question.
Yvonne, the palette is just stunning and I love the natural bits scattered about. Those berries are awesome! Are the snowberries?
You are so sweet my dear friend! I will look snowberries up! Don’t you love that name?
Hi Yvonne,
Your fall decorating looks lovely! Have you changed out your dining table? Did you do a post about it? I loved your concrete table so much.
Have a wonderful day 🙂
Cheers
Heather
I love my concrete top table too but it has legs that are very farmhouse! And the table does not work with my decor anymore. Fresh things coming to the Tanglewood house. Pretty is back in a big way!
Waiting to see which direction you are going to go with a dining room table. I was going to order that concrete top table, but now I am going to wait to see what you have in store. Do tell, when will the new reveal be?
Stop back tomorrow for Wednesday Weekly Wishlist. I’ll be sharing what I am getting.
Beautiful autumn inspiration! It is hard to tell from the photos, but I believe these are Hypericum Berries. They come from a bush and can come in red, yellow, pink, white and even black. Another name for them is St. John’s Wort.
Enjoy!
Thanks, JC! So glad you are inspired!
Love the layout of your kitchen, and seating “bumpout.” Beginning home build stages and would love your insight.
Thank you!
Your home is so beautiful! I would like to know where you purchased the foot rail in your kitchen.
Thank you,
Susan
I think they look more like pyracantha berries with the way they are growing.
P.S. Your home is always stunning, so very beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
So so sweet!
BEAUTIFUL- as usual.
Are the hydrangeas in the kitchen vase newly cut or dried and, if dried, how do you do that and how long does it take. Thanks
Thanks, Emily!
Gorgeous, as always! Love that green candle holder! It’s perfect! And all your simple but elegant touches… always sigh-worthy. As far as citron and aqua… remind me to show you my dandelion pillow covers!
Yes, let’s Facetime this week!
Your kitchen is gorgeous! I love the subtle fall decor – so very sophisticated.
Your mystery berries are adorable. I confess that I have no clue as to what they are, but I don’t think they are Viburnum berries they look like little apples – so they might be a member of the rose family. Thay could be Pyracantha – does the shrub have thorns?
I’m always learning such wonderful things from your posts. Your kitchen is a dream ( smile). I love the autumn touches and hope to add a few to my kitchen are too. It’s always a pleasure to stop by your blog for a visit and some decorating inspiration. Hugs!
rats, I just spotted a type-o, it should say add a few to my kitchen area too…
You are so sweet!
what are the brown balls in the white pots. Love the way they look in the container.
The balls are dried boxwood.
Love all the fall ideas. I have a large vase similar to yours and room on my peninsula. Plan to put my green hydrangeas in mine and display. Where did you get that darling basket near your knives on the counter?
Hi June. I found it locally. I keep my eye out for baskets.
It’s interesting how my own decorating styles have changed by reading your blog! My decorating weaknesses are vases/pottery and candleholders! My now favorite way to decorate is to include some very large white/natural anchor vases/vessels and then enhance with smaller glass or pottery colored pieces and seasonal fauxs. I’ve been paring it down too…makes hubby happier too. For Fall this year, I’m going very simple as I’ll be away for a lot of it, just don’t want to come home in November looking at beachy colors, so sunflowers will come out this week!
I’m thrilled you feel you are getting ideas from StoneGable
I think your plant with berries might be pyracantha or nandina
