FALL HYDRANGEA AND GREEN APPLE TABLE
Today is one of those beautiful fall days! Perfect for setting an early fall table outside! The hydrangeas on our bushes flanking the front door looked so pretty I could not help cutting a few and using them along with green apples for a table!
Today is STYLED +SET. Thanks, Lory at Designthusiam for organizing us! If you are coming from my dear friend Anita’s at Cedar Hill Farmhouse, welcome! So glad you stopped by!
I have some simple rules when setting a table. I’m using this table to share my tablescaping top three rules with you!
FIND INSPIRATION
Every table should start with an idea or inspiration. For this table, I wanted to highlight GREEN APPLES! September is apple month and I think green apples are just so beautiful!
It just happened that my hydrangeas were taking on such a pretty fall look tinges with a bit of pink.
And I just had to use them with the green apples!
This is a great way to lead into the next StoneGable table setting rule…
KEEP A TIGHT COLOR PALETTE
A table with a tight color palette has a put together look! And keeping the colors simple on a table has become a signature look for a StoneGable table.
If you just remember to keep your colors tight you have a very good chance of setting a table with a cohesive and beautiful appearance!
This table is green and white and a natural color pulled from the placemats and baskets. And the table color, because it is not neutral also plays a part in its color palate too!
A STONEGABLE RULE ABOUT CENTERPIECES
This is so simple…
If your centerpiece is fancy or as that WOW factor feel then the place settings on the table should be simple. And vice versa!
This keeps a table from looking too over-the-top or to plain. It brings a sense of balance to a tablescape!
The hydrangea centerpiece was super easy to make and filled up the center of the table!
The secret to this centerpiece is layering. The hydrangeas on their own would not fill up the table and have enough visual weight.
But when they are put in a basket and the basket is filled with apples centerpiece magic happens!
Because the arrangement fills the center of the table each place setting is very very simple!
Just a hyacinth grass placemat, a square plate, a white linen napkin, and an apple!
When you follow these three easy StoneGable tablescaping rules and add your own personality and pretty things you can’t help but set a memorable table.
Now I hope you will visit Lidy at Edith And Evelyn! You are in for a treat!

Your tablescapes always have me swooning Yvonne and this one is so refreshing!
The hydrangeas are lovely. What variety are they??
The table setting is so pretty! However, the tall hydrangeas would block guests from seeing each other across the table. Would you remove them once everyone sits down at the table? I’ve seen this often in beautiful table settings on blogs and magazines, but in actual use it is very difficult to have a conversation at the table when you cannot see some of the people you are talking to or have to keep leaning back and forth to see them.
Beautiful table, love the natural look and the hydrangeas, they are one of my favorite flowers.
MIne too, Doreen!
I love your Fall fresh ideas. The table setting is so pretty!
Love the simplicity of this fall table. What are the green plants in the arrangement? Thanks!
Love all your tablescapes and this one is a stunner. Love it!! ?
I am still learning to keep that limited color palette… it helps so much! Thanks for these wonderful tips, Yvonne… I especially like the one, if you’re centerpiece makes a statement, then the table settings should be simple, and vice versa. So smart!
This post fills every corner of my heart.
I just love the casual eloquence of your apple and hydrangea centerpiece!
Thanks, Cindy! Fall is such an easy and pretty time to decorate.
Yvonne, I always enjoy your tablescapes. I absolutely adore these green apples with the hydrangeas outdoors! So perfect for fall.
Hugs, Jamie
THanks, Jamie! This was a super fun table to set!
Yvonne,
Do you do anything special with your hydrangeas to keep them from wilting after you cut them? I have tried several “tricks” and not had much luck. What is the secret? Thanks, Camille A.
Hi Camille, There are lots of things you can do to keep cut hydrangeas pretty for a long, long time! This post is a must read for all things hydrangeas:https://www.stonegableblog.com/everything-ever-need-know-cut-hydrangeas/
Yvonne,
Your tablescapes always inspire me! The outdoor tables are the BEST! Each new tablesetting from you gives me a new favorite. In my blog post for today, I quoted you, “Keep a tight color palette,” as part of my advice for a French Country Rustic Fall Entry. I included a link back to this blog post, but did not use one of your photos.
Judith
Thank you, sweet friend! Judith, you are always welcome to use one of my images!
Can you please tell me where you got your baskets and placemats. I really like their texture. Thanks.
Hi Yolanda, The basket was from a local shop and you can find the placemats here and they are on sale!!!! Go here:https://rstyle.me/+uQ9GEI-W9hV0OCoUFEnwlg
Hello! The Stone Gable table scape is breathtaking! I saw in one of your comments that the basket was sourced locally. Do you have the name/info on the store? I would be interested in purchasing and shipping if they are still available. I have a 18′ antique table that is always so difficult to decorate to scale – in search of an extra large low natural weave basket. This StoneGable table scape is my inspiration for a fall baby shower!
I found that basket so long ago. I have not seen the basket at Cocalico Home for a long time.
