Today is 20 MINUTE DECORATING! My friends and I are sharing pretty ways to decorate your home in under 20 minutes!
Lory from Designthusiam, our fabulous organizer, put yet another group together! Thanks so much!!!
Let’s talk about how easy it is to add something pretty and fresh to our front doors!
So fun, right?
WHAT IS A FRONT DOOR DECAL?
A decal is a special design on vinyl that transfers to another surface like glass, wood, metal, or even your front door!
There are all types of front door decals! Most decals can be customized for your door and your style! You can choose different sayings, fonts, sizes, and colors! Truly customized! I could get a little crazy with these decals!
Here are just a few I think are so attractive…
HOW TO ADD A DECAL TO THE FRONT DOOR
Most decals come with full instructions and I suggest you follow them. But I thought you would like to see just how easy it is to add one to the front door!
Here’s our front door without any embellishments. Oh, okay, we did add a nickel finish kick plate. Bobby loves kick plates. And a nickel wreath hanger. But that’s all!
The first thing we did was wash our front door with an all-purpose cleaner.
My husband Bobby was my lovely assistant for the photoshoot! This is really a one person job, but I took pictures and Bobby “posed” for them!
We let the door completely dry.
Then we measured the area we wanted to place the decal to center the wording.
We stripped the backing off the decal. It is very sticky at this point.
And gently positioned the backing on the door centering the word “hello” where we wanted it.
In the spirit of full disclosure, even though we measured and carefully laid down the decal it ended up being a bit out of alignment. UGH! We came to find out that it’s very hard to unstick the backing so we decided to just “go for it”. I can’t tell you how many projects we do around our home that include the words “just go for it”!
Just goes to show you that things can go wrong no matter how careful you are! But it’s not the end of the word! We were excited to see if the wording looked okay or not!
So I rubbed a credit card over the writing…vigorously and carefully!
And then we gently peeled the paper off the wording. Very gently!
The wording stuck to the door perfectly!!! Yay!!!
And the little alignment issue was not an issue at all!
WELL, HELLO!
Adding a front door decal was so easy and it makes such a pretty, unexpected welcome to everyone who comes to our front door!
A big thank you to my wonderful Bobby! My lovely assistant and partner in all things home and in life!
Just think how pretty a decal will look on your front door!

Where did you get the decal? Looks great!
Hi Beverly,
Look in the body of the post. You can see lots of door decals. Just click on one and it will take you to its site. Hope this helps.
Love the door decal just perfect. Just the right size too! Jean
Thanks Jean! I’m so obsessed with door decals now!
I put I decal of my house numbers on my Blue/grey front door about five years ago. They look wonderful and add personality to the front door. To tell you the truth people often ask if I hand painted them because from a distance they don’t look like a decal. Love them.
I know! I’ve already had a couple neighbors compliment my little hello!
I love the way the decal looks, Yvonne! We have a scripture decal on one of our bathroom walls, and I’m a word person all around, so a front door word or words would be a great addition here at our house. I also like your “just go for it” approach … something I need to remind myself when things don’t go quite according to plan. ?
Thanks, Lauren!
Are they easy to remove if you ever wanted to do so?
I’m not sure. I did not remove it. I know you can heat a vinyl decal with a hairdryer and gently remove it with the edge of a credit card. Hope this helps.
Brilliant!!!
The decal is so cute. I’ve seen one before and thought it would be something I would try, but I was a little nervous about aligning it. You have given me courage! Is this a 6” decal?
Hello yvonne.Love the decal on your door.I rent and am not allowed to paint. So this will be great.I have only a side entrance so it will help spruce it up .As always thank you for sharing.Tell Bobby he did a great job posing. Your a lucky woman?God Bless you both.love to both
Good Afternoon Yvonne
I will be downsizing in the next few years and it will be difficult because I love my country home but witnessing God bring you through it has taken away some of my worry for the future.
I have a question however. Did you paint your front door or do you know the color of the door? It is a lovely color. I love the outside of your new home also. Every so often I change my front porch and that usually means a new paint on front door. Thank you for your decal post. Vicky
Hi Vicky, we did not paint our front door. It’s a very interesting color and I thought I would live with it for a while. I’ll try to get the color for you and email it to you. I call it a soft khaki green.
Can you please tell me where you got your decal, “hello”?
Thanks so much!
Maryann
Hi Maryann, in the body of the post are links to door decals. You will see the one I chose plus a lot of others. I hope this helps. Have a happy day!
Hi Yvonne, when the time comes to remove the door decal will it damage the paint?
I saw a video about how to remove them. Super easy. Heat the decal on the door with a hairdryer and gently peel it up. Hope this helps. I plan to leave my decal on our front door until we paint the door again.
I click the link for your headboard and got the door decal info. Can you send me the info on your headboard? I love the look.
Sorry about that Judy, here’s the link:https://rstyle.me/+DMuSxk_BZYtNFA9zCE00tg
Happy Tuesday Yvonne,
Great tutorial for showing application and so many fun decals for front doors!
You would share the doir color you used? I’m in for a change and this just might work for us.
Manny, many thanks.
Tink
Hi Tink, I get asked this question so often and I don’t know. The door was painted this color when we moved in and we liked it so much we kept it. I’m trying to get a color match and when I do I’ll let you know.
Hi, and thanks for the ideas. Is your bench painted the same as the planter, or black?
Would you share that color, as well as the color of your door? My teak planters are SW black fox, and my bench is the same as yours, without arms. I’m debating if I should go with the same for the bench it a little contrast. I look forward to your post. ? Pat
Hi Pat. The bench and the planter are both black. I bought them black. I’m not sure of the door color as it was like that when we moved in.
I’ve been trying to find these decals. Thank you! Yours looks fabulous
Hi there!! Love your blog!!! Can you tell me where you got the ruler that your husband is using to apply the “hello” decal to the front door! So Neat!
I found it at Staples year and years ago.
I apologize if I missed it, but can you share the color name of the front door when you first moved in?
Hi Christine, We don’t know. I will have to try to get a match for it. I’ll let you know.
What is the color paint on your front door? Where did you buy the “hello” decal?
The door was painted that color when we moved in. I know it is a Benjamin Moore color but I don’t know much else.
