I’ve decorated our front porch for fall with lots of fall’s natural beauty! White pumpkins and mums are the stars of this year’s decor!
You don’t need a big front porch to make it attention-worthy!
Here are some tips that will help fall porch decorating a lot easier!
Dress Up Your Front Porch For Fall
One of the first things I do at the beginning of any season is to hang the biggest, fluffiest, and prettiest wreath on my front door!
This one thing will make your front porch looks so festive!
I dug out a burlap wreath I made a few years ago to hang on the front door. I like how the color of the door and the color of the wreath work together.
Here are 5 Easy Front Door Decorations you might want to make for your home.
Making your own wreath instead of buying one can save you lots of $$$, and you can coordinate it with your color palette.

Did you notice the “hello” decal on my front door? You can see this decal and other front door decals HERE. Also, I have step-by-step directions about how to apply it! SUPER EASY!
Layer A Pretty Fall Rug And Doormat
How cute is this doormat layered with a black and white striped rug?
Adding a new seasonal doormat is one of the best fall porch decorating ideas!
We probably don’t think about our doormat too often, but I bet most of us could use a new one!
I love to buy a doormat for different seasons. It is such an inexpensive investment and will create such a pretty welcome when paired with a rug under it!
You can see lots of fall doormats and pretty rugs to put under them in my post DRESSING UP A DOORMAT.
Add Seating To Your Fall Porch
Even though our front porch is small, I was able to add a black bench to it.
I think adding a bench or rocker or attractive chair to a front porch makes it just so welcoming!!!!
So if you have room on your porch, add a little seating!
Repeat, Repeat, Repeat
Repeating color and elements is an interior design trick to create a cohesive room, so these tips will also work in your outdoor spaces.
Use Color To Pull It All Together
Because my front door is a light color, and so is quite a bit of the front of our home, I used black to ground it a bit.
A black bench is not only a great place to sit or have packages dropped off, it is a great decor choice!
So was a tall black self-watering planter placed opposite the black bench.
I filled the planter with white mums, ornamental peppers, flowering kale and cabbage, and other flowers that will do well when the weather gets cooler.
The other color you see repeated on the porch is white! I love black and white together! It creates a crisp look!
Use Other Fall Items
The best things you can use to create a cohesive-looking porch this time of the year are natural fall elements.
Repeating the same ones over and over on your porch will make your porch looks pulled together!
White pumpkins in various sizes dot my front porch this fall!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE pumpkins, and use them liberally!
White mums are another repeated element, and so are the leaves that the wind blew in!
Extend Decor Off Your Porch
Another great fall porch decorating idea, especially for a small-ish porch, is to extend fall decorations off the porch!
Instead of keeping all the fall decor on just the porch, I added a large round planter with the same kinds of flowers in the tall planter to our front garden. Actually, I put it right in the mulch!
And I added a grouping of white pumpkins in front of it.
You can see the DOT SELF-WATERING PLANTER HERE.
Also, white mums and pumpkins were added to the walk in front of the porch.
It gives the illusion of extending the porch!
Your front porch is prime decorating real estate!
No matter how big or small or in between your front porch is, all these porch decorating tips will work!
Let’s decorate our front door and porch for a beautiful fall!
I just love the burlap wreath on your front door. When I click on the link, it says page not found. Could you please fix it so we have directions to make the wreath. I am a long-time reader and in trying to locate the instructions for the wreath, I just realized you don’t have a heading for tutorials like you used to. That was so helpful. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for such beautiful and informative posts.
Donna
Hi Donna, sorry about the wreath. I made that years ago and the post was very old. Sometimes these very old posts get a tech glitch. I’m planning on re-making the wreath and will post the directions when I do.
These are GREAT tips and tricks for decorating a small patio or porch, Yvonne. I love your little black bench. It’s kind of the same idea as the little black dress in a closet. You just gotta have one! 😉 I’ll be incorporating some of these ideas on my balcony! Thanks!
So sweet Julie!
All great tips! Like the black and white.
Need your option on when is the latest date/time to display faux hydrangeas?
Hi Nan, display faux hydrangeas all year. They are so beauituful.
Your porch is to die for! Hope you have a great week!
Teri
Thank you so much, Teri!
Thanks for sharing all your tips! Love your pretty front porch.
You are so welcome!
What color paint have you used for the front door? It’s very attractive
As is your entire home.
Thank you.
Bonnie
Hi Bonnie, Our front door was painted when we moved in. We think the color is Silver Satin by Benjamin Moore. Hope this helps.
