Let’s get stared…

WARM WINTER SWEATER WREATH-A beautiful winter wreath that anyone can make-

Did I already say how super easy this wreath is? It took me 20 minutes to make. How easy is that?  Okay, let’s begin…

I got 5 different textured wooly sweaters from Goodwill.

WARM WINTER SWEATER WREATH-A beautiful winter wreath that anyone can make-1 and 2.  Cut sweaters in strips about 4 inches wide. I used 2 sweater strips of each color for this wreath.

3. To make the wreath you will need sweater strips, a straw wreath (to work with your size door) and u pins. You can get u pins in most craft stores. To finish the wreath you will need chunky yarn and frosted pinecones.

WARM WINTER SWEATER WREATH-A beautiful winter wreath that anyone can make-4 and 5.  Start with one sweater strip.  Fix the end of the sweater strip to the wreath with a u pin.  I started the wreath on the backside and bottom of the outside of the wreath.

6 Wrap the strip around the wreath and tuck the end of the sweater strip into the last loop of the sweater. Fix with a u pin.

8. Cut a long length of yarn ( about 20 feet) from both skeins of yarn.

9. Tie one color of yarn to the back of the wreath and wind around wreath as pictured below. To finish the yarn winding, tie the end of the yarn to the the knot that was make at the beginning.  Use that know to tie the second length of yarn and wind the yarn around the yarn. End by tying a knot to the one at the beginning.

If you run out of yarn before you get all the way around your wreath, tie off the yarn in the back of the wreath and continue on.

This addition is optional. To add the frosted pinecones to the wreath… Hot glue an 8 inch length of yarn to the top of the pinecone. Do this to as many pinecones as you like. Arrange them in a cascading style and fix to the underside of the wreath with a u pin. Cut of excess yarn.

WARM WINTER SWEATER WREATH-A beautiful winter wreath that anyone can make-So easy! This wreath would look amazing hanging on the door of a hutch or on a headboard. Wouldn’t a little one look adorable on the handle of a doorknob?

What an adorable wreath. I’ll be making the sweater wreath as soon as I make a trip to Goodwill. It’s perfect for winter, I just love it!

  5. My mom used to grab sweaters at yard sales and cut the sleeves off to make sweaters for her chihuahua, Prissy. She used pinking shears and cut arm holes, turned the cuff back making a turtleneck. By using pinking shears she was able to make vests which she took to a women’s shelter. I was going through my craft stuff trying to find something to hang on the door but nothing jumped out. Your wreath is great for this in between seasons. Time to hit up yard sales for sweaters!!

  6. I absolutely adore this sweater wreath! I have been contemplating something for the front door to carry me till closer to Valentine’s Day and you just solved my problem.

  22. I love this idea. We made the wrapped yarn balls wreath before. Lots of work. This is much easier and what a memory item. I’d use some of my daughter’s toddler sweaters..too stained for hand me downs, but I could enjoy seeing the colors in this wreath. Thanks.

I need it to live with hubby who wlll be getting walking boot Tuesday for stress fracture and turf toe. Ouch!

i love it – i have several wool sweaters that i felted that will work beautifully! thank you for the inspiration!

  32. Hi, Yvonne,
Did you make two sizes of Pom-poms for the Anthropologie wreath? I know the Pom-Pom makers can come with two different sizes in one package and you showed two in your photo, so made me wonder if you’d used both. Thank you, Yvonne, for another fun wreath to DIY!

    1. Hi Kathy, great question. I just used one size… the bigger one! Hope this helps.

  33. I had been searching for a wreath to put out after the holidays and I hadn’t seen anything that was different, then your post showed up. I immediately went to Hobby Lobby and Goodwill to get the supplies. It was so easy to make and looks great on my porch.
    Thanks!!!!

  34. I LOVE this wreath! My daughter and I made several versions using thrifted winter scarves and they turned out beautifully. My only question is what did you attach to the wreath to hang it? We used over the door wreath hangers and that worked well, but we weren’t sure what we’d use if we wanted to hang them on an inside wall.

  35. Such a cute idea! The color scheme is perfect for winter. Thanks for sharing!

  36. Yvonne! Thank you so much for stopping by our Homestyle Gatherings link party. It was so fun to click on the link and find you!:) I absolutely love this craft project and would love to hop on over to your house and create one with you… But, since that would be a little difficult, I’ll instead be looking for wooly sweaters at all the thrift stores!;) Have a wonderful week!

  37. Julie Briones says:

One of the prettiest wreaths you’ve made, in my opinion. 😉 Love the pinecones! Now to hit the thrift stores! 😉 Thanks for sharing at Homestyle Gathering! Hugs!

  38. MARY-ANN (FROM CANADA!) says:

Yvonne, you are so creative! How nice of you to share your wonderful creations with us! We are so blessed! I am going to make a sweater wreath for our doors! Love what you have done!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND BOBBY!

  39. Ellen Crayton says:

I’ve made some and the back of mine are so messy looking. How do you finish the back of yours?
    Thank you!

    1. Hi Ellen, I just keep wrapping my lengths of sweaters around the wreath and tuck under the ends. If the backs look messy you would cut out a ring of white felt an glue that to the back. Hope this helps.

  40. Love this wreath!! Had to hunt all our second hand shops for sweaters. The first cuts into those sweaters felt sacrilegious!!!! Really like it hanging over buffet. Thx for idea.

    1. LOL! At first, it is a bit hard to take a pair of scissors to a perfectly good sweater. But the results are so worth it.
