WINTER IN THE LIVING ROOM
Winter is the time to pare down and and let the simple beauty of a room show through. Like the bare trees outside the windows, my living room reflects the season. I think winter is a time to let my the rooms in my home breathe. Spring will be here soon enough and that will be the time to bring spring branches, green organic things and more colorful accents to StoneGable. But for now, my living room is simple, showing the good traditional “bones” of the room. Come on in, I’ve been waiting for you!
My living room is almost impossible to photograph. Lots of windows and light coming in all day. It’s the brightest room in my home and a perfect spot for sitting and reading but not for taking pictures!
I brought back the large gilded mirror. I think I have a mirror in every room in my home. This mirror is decades old and one of our investment pieces.
No colorful pillows in the living room, I’m keeping everything very soft and monochromatic. I found a couple faux fur pillows at my local Pottery Barn Outlet. They are as soft as the real thing!
The curlacue chest is my favorite piece in the living room. It’s from Harper but I got it at Wayfair.
The bubble chairs sit across from the sofa
Even though it’s winter I can’t resist live flowers! I usually add a big vignette to the coffee table. But decided on a pair of white “snowflake” pottery. One hold white hydrangeas and one a candle. Again, keeping it very simple.
The little bird silhouette was a gift from my friend Susan. She is starting an Etsy shop. I’ll let you know when it’s up and running. She does such beautiful work.
The little bird is a harbinger of the season to come.
Spring will be here sooner than we know. Enjoy the rest of winter! Stay cozy and warm! How are you decorating this winter?

Everything looks so peaceful and relaxing, just the place to retire to of an evening. I would dearly love a light coloured sofa but I’m worried that I would constantly be cleaning it…
The whole room is wonderful, Yvonne, but you know what caught my eye? The boxwood orb on the pedestal, and the tree in the print behind it. It looks like shadowplay, and I love that. Very pleasing to the eye. Yes, I’m with you on wanting quiet in the home this time of year in the decor.
So pretty, fresh looking love those tones!
This room has to be one of my favorites in your house. Everything just flows! A perfectly balance of size, textures, colors, and placement of everything! I love it:)
Your room is so lovely and the dresser from Wayfair is very beautiful. May I ask where you purchased the two white snowflake jars that sit on your coffee table. They are so pretty. Thank you for sharing your creativity with all of us.
Hi Susan, Look at the reply to Bridget.
So pretty, I love the bones of your room and it looks beautiful left simple and elegant.
I love your “snowflake” pottery! Would you mind sharing where you purchased them?
Hi Bridget, The snowflake pottery came from my local Pottery Barn Outlet a few years ago!
I LOVE everything you post!! I know nithing aobut photography, but what if you photographed your livingroom at night? Would that solve the issue of the overexposed light? Regardless, the room is beautiful, and I love your home!
I also love the snowflake pottery, those are two of my favorite things you own! The faux fur pillows are fantastic, perfect for adding some neutral warmth to the room. Love your living room! I could sit in there for hours.
I love the look of the bubble chairs, but are they comfortable to sit on? I am researching for our new house and haven’t found any to try out in my shopping area.
The bubble chairs are probably the most comfortable chairs in my home. They are down wrapped and delightful. The seat is large so they fit larger people. I highly recommend these chairs. I got them from Ethan Allen. I have seen similar ones on Joss & Main and Wayfair. Hope this helps.
I love the picture you have hanging above your curlicue chest, would you mind sharing where it was purchased. Thanks
Hi Jane. We love love love this giclee. Here’s a post about it with the information you are asking for: https://www.stonegableblog.com/curlacue-chest/
Just beautiful! Do you have a separate room to store all of the decor you use for different seasons? I would change out but storage is a problem for me. Have a great week!
Storage is a very big problem. I have a basement (both finished and unfinished) as big as the footprint of my home. Right now I am cleaning everything out and putting all my decor on storage racks. I’ll post about it when its done.
Hi Yvonne: I adore everything you do in your gorgeous house but I must say, this “pared-back” look is so refreshing!!! It’s SO calming and I love the fact you have nothing on your garden stool/seat. I have one as well (blue/white pattern) and find I love it bare to enjoy the sculptural look of it. While I also admire your talent with vignettes, this room really “shines” without anything – it has so much going for it with the lovely windows and doors – all of it is just beautiful. I’m still removing some of the decor items in my living room for a fresher look – sometimes after all the glitz and sparkly things from Christmas, it’s hard to do but I’m trying!! I sure wish I lived near a Pottery Barn outlet!
You can get the snowflake pottery (or close to it) at Pier1. I got mine there a few months ago. Hope that helps!
The snowflake pottery came from Pottery Barn. I’m not sure if they are still available.
I also love this room! I wonder about the light over one of your bubble chairs, I would not have thought to place it there!
Hi Gail, I needed some light in that area of the room so I went up.
Looking good, Yvonne. I’m still loving that animal rug!
Yvonne,
Gorgeous Living Room, dear friend!!!
I, too, love your chest!!!
The vignette on the chest and the coffee table are stunning for Winter!!!
We’ve had NO SN O W here on the Prairie, and I’ve thrown in the towel for Winter 2016!!!
Today, I began adding touches of Spring to the Dining Room and Kitchen!!!
Fondly,
Pat
A beautiful room for all seasons Yvonne!…I love that the lanterns can be used all year round as they can have a snowflake look or a beautiful flower of spring and summer…and yes those fur pillows are the softest..so soft that my granddaughter took it home! I can imagine how lovely it must be to sit in that room overlooking the beautiful vistas of the snow covered ground.
Hi, I love love your style…could you tell me about the three frames behind one of the bubble chairs? I love the look of it but can’t tell what it is.
Hi Peggy, here’s a post about them…https://www.stonegableblog.com/architectural-wall-art-diy/
I agree with you about quieting down the house decor after Christmas;it feels restful after the holiday bustle. I love faux fur pillows also.I actually gave my daughters and daughter-in law sets of them for Christmas.
Happy New year to you,and thanks for all your great posts.
Hello! Where did you get the beautiful white snowflake pottery for you floweri
Hi Lori, you can find them here:https://rstyle.me/n/deyygmb6by7 they are a smaller version of the ones I have. But they are very nice!
