I think Christmas Eve is the most special day of the entire year. So I don’t want to squander it. I make sure we do lots of memory-making things that have become Christmas traditions. Here are 10 fun and wonderful things to do this Christmas Eve.

Take Pictures Of Your Christmas House
As a blogger, I have a running visual record of my home decorated for Christmas. And I love to see how things have changed over the years!
Why not do a movie or image tour of your home? If you have a smartphone use it to take lots of pictures of all your pretty decorations. Start at your front door and take pictures of all your Christmas decorations! You will be so glad you did.
Put Your Shoes Outside Your Bedroom Door
Every Christmas Eve, when our grandbabies come, they put their shoes outside their bedroom doors, and Santa fills them with goodies. This is a tradition that comes from the Netherlands. St. Nicholas Day is December 6th. We have tweaked the tradition a little and do this on Christmas Eve.
Even if you don’t have little ones in your home this year, surprise someone in your home with a shoe filled with their favorite candy and maybe a small gift. It will make a fun holiday memory.
SING CHRISTMAS CAROLS
The only time I miss having a piano is at Christmas! If you don’t have any instruments to accompany you, then put on your favorite music and sing!
Of all the days of the year to sing, this one is it! As a matter of fact, have Christmas music playing from the second you get up until you go to bed! This will create tons of Christmas spirit.
Night Before Christmas Gift
Since Bobby and I were first married, we have given each other a night-before Christmas gift. And we do the same for our children and grandchildren. I bet so many of you do this, too. Let me guess, is it pajamas? Everyone in our home gets a nice new pair of fun jammies! And sometimes they match!
Go To Church
Christmas Eve feels holy to me! Every year, we go to Christmas Eve service, and it puts Christmas into perspective! You might also like to read The Real Christmas Story, a real look at the birth of Jesus.
Make Christmas Cookies
My new love of baking is almost an obsession! I’m going to wake up early on Christmas Eve morning and bake cookies while listening to Christmas carols.

Our first married Christmas, Bobby and I watched It’s A Wonderful Life, and it has become a Christmas Eve tradition.
When we get home from church, we pop the cork on some bubbly, snuggle up in our new pajamas, and watch George Bailey, Clarence, Zuzu, and more working out a Christmas miracle in Bedford Falls.

Go See The Lights
I LOVE LOVE LOVE going for a long drive to see all the good, bad, and so so ugly Christmas lights! Actually, we usually do this on the way home from church. But this year, we are doing our Christmas Eve drive a few days early.

Every Christmas Eve we have a buffet of charcuterie, shrimp, dips, stuffed dates, candy, homemade Christmas cookies, and bakery bread. Christmas music is playing and after everyone has eaten we head to the living room with our eggnog and open presents. As a kid my Dad always worked Christmas Eve. We had a tavern and he always stayed open to make sure those who didn’t have anyone would have a place to congregate and celebrate with others. My mother, brother, and I would go to Midnight Mass, then come home to watch The Bells of Saint Mary’s, drink egg, and wait for my father. When he got home (usually around 4:30 AM) we opened gifts. Christmas morning we all slept in; as we had already attended church. Christmas Day was always dinner with extended family and playing with cousins and showing off our Christmas presents. Now it’s just me, my daughter, and 2 grandkids. Cousins all have their own families, my brother lives out of town, and my parents are deceased. Really miss our Christmases together.

My husband and I have many Christmas Eve memories, both of our almost 50 years together, as well as childhood remembrances. We enjoyed a stir fry meal and will spend a little time reading scripture, as well as thanking God for his gift of Jesus. Also adding a few bows and making sure the grandkids’ gift piles are even. Relaxing tonight, as tomorrow will be spent with 5 granddaughters. Will be crawling into bed early to watch a favorite Christmas movie.
